Here is a simple way I boosted blog comments by 500-600%.
Are your blog comments a bit slow coming in? Do you look at the bottom of your blog posts and see no blog comments? Does it sometimes seem like you threw a party and no one showed up?
I know how you feel.
- You share the inner workings of your business.
- You tip things that are really successful for you.
- You teach some of your most profitable tricks.
- You look at your stats and see a lot of people visited.
People come. People read. People leave.
Not that I worry about my comments, but all things being equal, it would be nice if someone commented.
I recently stumbled on something that boosted my blog comment response up by 500%-600%. I wanted to share it with you. Perhaps you will find the same.
It makes sense when you think about it…I had not.
My buddy Keith Livingston mentioned it in passing. He suggest I get rid of the Captcha on the blog posts. I had not even given it any thought. I previously had remembered another friend, Richard Geller mentioned that a particular WordPress plugin cut way down on his spam.
I dug up the email and this was the WordPress Plugin
That plugin was installed and Captcha was turned off.
Guess what?
The spam indeed decreased. PLUS, the next Blog post I sent out got a 500-600% higher comment rate!
Now, was it ONLY that change that generated that increase in comments? Probably not. And obviously, once does not make a pattern, but I bet that the improvement will definitely continue – it’s just human nature. The easier something is the more likely we are to do it.
If you already have tried this plugin let me know how it worked for you. Or if you give it a try, let me know if you experience the same results as I have.
Less spam and more comment.
Cool!
Very interesting Geoff. And since I see no comments yet, I felt compelled to leave you one (and thank you for the great stuff you post here too). Will go and check out the plugin now.
Quentin,
Thanks much. It would help if when I sent out the notification I could put in the link right? That sort of kills the traffic to the page. 🙂
Interesting plugin – will have to give it a test drive. Thanks for the tip!
Hello Geoff,
Quite true about human nature, and I hate captchas. It takes some time until you get them right, not always easy to read them.
About comments, I don’t get any as well on my blog posts but I think it’s because people must register in order to comment on the platform I use at the moment–it’s a modified WP platform. I suppose that it’s done to capture people’s contact information.
I always wonder how to increase my blog comments, so this blog post is a gold nugget. Thanks
Geoff,
I was just wondering why you don’t use Disqus, since it makes it very easy for readers to comment. Is there a better commenting system? Enjoyed your post.
Robb
Robb,
Thanks for the comment. I had not considered Disqus with this site. I tried it on a site a number of years ago and it had some limitations. My guess is those have been remedies. I will check em out again.
