Many, many years ago, I was struggling with discontentment. I was in a dark funk. I was unhappy and dissatisfied. You see, I had recently moved from Northern Nevada to Northern California. It really had me bummed out.
I decided to go see a therapist to see what he could do to help me.
I walked into his office, sat in the waiting room and wondered about the type of approach he was going to take with me. Being well read on psychology, I had all sorts of ideas in my head.
He called me into his office. I revealed my feelings. He sat back for what seemed like an eternity.
Then he said, “Move back to Nevada.”
I thought to myself, “Aren’t you suppose to do something more than that?” Like, wasn’t he supposed to psychoanalyze my situation and try to work on getting me to live happily in a place I didn’t really like? Shouldn’t he say something profound? Maybe offer me a five-step action plan?
But then it hit me… sometimes the most obvious solution is the one we miss. Sometimes, we’ve just got to get up and move.
A lot of times in our business, we are searching for how to change things that “are” rather than accepting them and moving on.
Such as:
- How to drive more traffic – when the solution is to change niches where more traffic exists.
- How to sell higher dollars to current clients – when the solution is to get new clients.
- How to get more business – when the solution is to go where more business is possible.
I could have stayed in Northern California and fought it. Instead I packed up my bags and headed back to Reno and found happiness and success.
Key questions: Are there things in your business you are currently fighting that maybe you should just accept, so you can move on? Are there things in your business that you used to fight, that once you accepted you were able to achieve greater success?
Geoff, that had me in stitches! What a great answer and – you got the most profound statement too hahaha 🙂
